Clark Montgomery is a top internationally recognized rider and former Olympian in the sport of evening, and now as the he is taking on the show jumping world as head trainer and rider at the prestigious Apex Equestrian Center.
Originally hailing from Texas, Clark has been living and competing in the eastern US, UK and Europe since 1999. Clark has been a regular fixture on the USEF's High Performance and World Class training lists for many years. From 2012-2016, he and his wife Jessica lived in the Cotswald region of England. Based at Capt Mark Phillips' (former USET Chef d'Equip) Aston Farm, Clark and his horses benefitted immensely from locating in the "mecca" of his sport. Competing week in and week out against the best horse and rider combinations in the world taught them how to elevate their game to produce truly world-class results. During his time in England, Clark and his two main competition horses, Loughan Glen and Universe produced 11 top 10 finishes including four first place finishes for Loughan Glen. He also won the US inaugural Nation's Cup CIC3* at Great Meadow, Va., the prestigious Blenheim Palace CCI3* and was 6th place at the Luhmuhlen CCI4* in Germany.
Clark's recent competition statistics speak for themselves. He and his horses produced over 60 top 5 placings 30% of which were wins. Clark and Glen's stellar record landed them a spot on the 2016 USET Olympic team. Representing his country in the Rio Olympics fulfilled a lifelong dream for Clark.
Clark and Jess along with their young daughter Vivian, are now working towards re-establishing their training base in the US from their beautiful farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Obtaining and developing several younger horses is imperative for future long-term high-performance success.
Clark strives each day to become a better horseman. With an emphasis placed on each horse's physical and emotional needs, he is able to realize success while building strength in their character. It is through his daily systematic approach to training that the horses find strength, confidence and ultimately the will to win.
